Outlet of original culvert at Peeples Road Spur over Rock Creek in Murray County, 2019
On Earth Day 2021, The Nature Completed completed another fish passage project in Rock Creek, a major tributary to Holly Creek, one of the Conasauga River watersheds with the highest conservation value in Georgia and the entire Southeastern US/North America. Thanks to funding from NFWF and Georgia Power, the hideous undersized culvert in the photo above, which was originally surveyed by the LEAF crew in 2019 was replaced with a pre-fabricated bottomless arch culvert. A few weeks earlier, after receiving 5 inches of rain, this road crossing completely flooded, blowing out the culverts (a common problem with undersized culverts) and stranding the land owners on the other side. This project will provide significant benefits to the incredible aquatic community in the Holly Creek watershed, as well as to the people who call this place home.
